burn out
how do you deal with teacher burnout? After a while it gets hard to keep everyone motivated
Brittany,
Like your plan. This past session I taught five sections of the same course. I made small changes in each section to set them apart in my mind so that I could keep track of what had been covered in each section as well as retain a high level of interest on my part. If we don't do something like this it is easy to fall into a rut and the students will start picking up on the fact that we are just going through the motions rather than bringing our passion and enthusiasm to the class each day.

I try to change at least one thing for each unit each term. This helps me stay excited about the material, keeps content current, and helps me stay out of a slump. I teach many of the same courses on repeat every quarter, so for me the variety and challenge of trying something new is important to keep me motivated.
Brenda,
When I start to feel this way I find a new activity, case study or some other instructional item that will be different than what I have been doing. This gets me really excited because I don't know exactly, though I have planned it out, how it will work with the students. This unknown gets me ramped up and motivated and this excitement spreads to my students. So it is a win win for both of us.
