Teaching Through Example
I believe that when the teacher displays their motivation for instructing a class through their passion for and knowledge of the subject, the students will have an easier time motivating themselves to participate.
I think if you teach something that you like to do it takes the work out of the job. When you show students you have passion about the subject they become more interested in what you have to say. It makes them wonder why you like it.
So true Walking the walk. In a field as medicine student are not only intrested to have information and grades but also want to know about the health. They have someone in the family who is sick and they are curious to know about the disease. Teaching becomes intresting and exciting and you have the students participating when I give them the examples and walk them through situations and real life experiences. This really helps them understand the subject matter better and they tend to retain better.
Patricia,
I couldn't agree more. In many cases, an instructor's enthusiasm and motivation is "transferred" to or "caught" by the students.
Hi Bruce,
Glad to hear that you are still enjoying your teaching. Students can really sense whether you like what you are doing or not. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I love to teach the class by bringing my many years of experince and that I still have a passion for the class and subject which shows the students that they can have a job that should give them many years with out going into a job burn out. That there is fun in work and not just a job.
I agree. Having taught for over 8 years, when I approach a subject with enthusiam, if nothing else, the students will at least stay awake and attempt to participate, even sharing instances which have a minute amount of direct reference, which at least tells me they are trying.
Patricia,
I teach Medical Assisting and Anatomy and Physiology and it is imperative that I teach through example. It always makes me smile when I get to the lab with the students and beging demonstrating a skill and stumble onto my bad habbits. I strive daily to teach by example.
Put yourself in the students seat. If they are about to go to sleep, is it you? Get the students involved more. Let them take part in the lecture. Let them present an explanation on a componet. Teach like you would want to learn.
I try to always use real life experiences/examples.
I agree, using real life examples help out alot
Hi Deborah,
Well said. I know your students benefit from your instruction because you love being a teacher and getting the opportunity to share your knowledge with others. A saying goes along with this discussion "To teach is to learn twice". This is what we get to do as teachers.

I alsto believe that a teacher should display their motivation for instucting a class through their passion and knowledge of the subject. I also was a former graduate from the Career College that I am now an instructor at. I feel as though sharing this with my students helps encourage them. I also feel as though it will help motivate them and I can use the concept I've been in their shoes.
I find retention is higher with a motivated instructor.
I love my course and also exhibit a great motivation for the course.
Hi Patricia,
Well said. This is part of not only "talking the talk but walking the walk." It really helps to engage students when the instructor is excited about the course content and having the opportunity to share it with students.
