motivation

keeping the students motivated is very difficult. Dealing with different personalities and problems. Talking with them on a one to one seems to work well.

Choppy
While I disagree that motivation id difficult I do agree that reaching out to students is the best way to find ways to motivate them and that this can be challenging in many regards, students some times are too closed up and this requires that you show them your humanness and your desire to work with them to build a more satisfying and rewarding learning environment.

To motivate starting the first day is fun. Asking
question of all the students to see how they react and turns them to start thinking, the rest is easy.

I try to do this after class on a one on one basis and it works.

Hi Joel,
Yes, using alternative approaches to delivering content helps to keep the students engaged and interested. Also, your excitement will spread to the students if you really like sharing your knowledge with them.
Gary

Yes, with out a doubt, the students know if you are excited about what you are teaching or not. Using alternationg approaches may help you do that.

It is hard sometimes. We just have to stay excited about what we are doing and that will rub off.

Yes it is. I think that being prepared will help with instuctors motivation. Being prepared makes you feel good about the class and will reflect in your mood.
