Change their opinion by motivation
So many times I see classes come into a class room for a lecture and they imediately go into the "its time for a nap" mode. This is when the instructor has to change what the students expect. there were alot of examples of this in this course. Pick one... Pick two... use them all and turn that nap time into something they remember.
Jeff, I assume you mean "students come into a classroom"... I have only seen this a couple times, but since I keep my classes very interactive with discussion, projects, etc., it is hard for the lethargy to set in. What we do fight at one school is the darned air conditioning unit not working (I brought a thermometer to record the 78 degrees the room attains). I have to work hard to fight the tiredness we all feel as the room heats up!
Hello Jeff,
It's amazing to wonder if it will be eggs or tomatoes hitting me in the face as I walk into the classroom with lecture in hand. Pick to read their faces or pick not to read their faces is the question asked by many professional educators that have walked into the classrooms! We have just a moment in time before the student makes judgement on the performance of our career in eggs or tomatoes in the face. Change is a must with diversity and skilled knowlege of students expectations and vast materials to pull from. We seek success and growth in our students career at the end of all things.
Hi Jeff,
Right on! An instructor needs to be aware of what is going on in class and read the students then make changes in the delivery or activities to keep the students engaged in learning. By reading about and looking for different ways to present content you will be able to make the changes as the students require them. Keep up the good work.
