Motivate your student
Empathy, enthusiasm, confidence, these are the building blocks to keep students aware and active in a class room. Motivating students is really easy. Be confident and show them in their learning style. If you are enthusiastic during the process the students will follow and learn then becomes really easy.
Let them know every time you see them how great are been , and also asking them about the experiences in the externship site , help a lot to create this Motivation
If they know they have the foundation and building blocks (the instructors and administration) to back them up they will stop at nothing to achieve their ultimate goal of success.
I have found the best way to motivate your students is to truly care about their success. If they know they have the foundation and building blocks (the instructors and administration) to back them up they will stop at nothing to achieve their ultimate goal of success.
Hi Tom,
Well said. The old idea of "WIIFM" What's In It For Me has to be reinforced over and over again. Application and relevancy are by words of teaching career college students.
Gary
Motivation is one of the absolute building blocks of helping learners learn. The "whats in it for me" is on the mind of all participants. The instructor needs to early, often and continually apply the learning to how it will benefit the student for success.
Hi Jose,
I can tell you are passionate about cooking. This is very good for your students to see as they will be motivated by your excitement. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I THINK THAT HAVING PASSION FOR WHAT YOU DO AND BE ABLE TO SHOW AND VONVEY THAT ATTITUDE TO YOUR STUDENTS IS IN MY BOOK WITHOUT A DOUBT A KEY COMPONENT IN GETTING YOUR STUDENTS MOTIVATED, THAT AND OF COURSE HAVING THE KNOWLEDGE, THE EXPERIENCE AND A DYNAMIC DELIVERY KEEPS THE CLASSROOM ELECTRIFIYING. COOKING IS SOMETHING I AM VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT.
Hi Rami,
It is part of our professional duty as educators to help students to succeed. By using their life experiences as learning tools this can be done. If the life experiences are negative then the students can be shown how they can make positive choices for their lives and if the life experiences are positive they can build on them for succeed. Either way their life experiences can be used as building blocks.

can see that when students bring their life lessons into the classroom they sometimes begin to get discouraged with the outcome. Using this analogy the life lesson of the student would be viewed as a positive thing. By putting a positive spin on things you are motivating the student and giving them a feeling of self worth. Does anyone else feel this way?
Hi David,
Sometimes students forget about the progress they have made so by reminding them of it you are helping them to keep their minds on the final outcome of their education.
Gary
Hi Michael,
How fortunate your students are to have you as their instructor. The example you give is great and we instructors need to remind ourselves just how great our impact of attitude is on our students. We must be upbeat about what we do and how we work with people. Thanks for sharing.
Gary
I motivate my students through positive reinforcement. And by reminding them of how far they have come along by comparing their previous work to the quality of their work later on in their education.
The more of these courses I do the more I find I need to reevaluate how I look at things. An example would be: It’s going to rain today and I am bumming out because I will encounter slow traffic, the kids will be wet and the dog will smell like a wet dog. When I change my view a little bit, I see this scenario. We are in a severe drought for several months. The whether report is we will finally get rain. Why do I feel good about that report? The traffic will still be slow, the kids will still get wet and the dog will still smell. The difference is I’m not bummed out. When I step back and take a different look at things I see how I can be a positive influence on motivation on people. Hi Oliver,
It sounds to me like there is a lot of motivation going on when you talk about your excitement and energy use. The students motivate themselves as a result of you setting the stage for their success. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I try to have as much fun while presenting the course material. My students tend to become energized by my enthusiasm and since I teach a course dealing with electrical in a collision field. There is not a lot of motivation.
