Create a positive environment with authentic communication. Authentic communication is when non verbals and verbals match and understanding of the senders message is acheived through feedback.
I agree that they love to hear the life experiences and how it pertains to what they are learning. If I can use these experiences it seems like it is easier to understand the concepts. They need to know that teachers have struggled as well at some point in their life and made it thru. Students want to be able to relate.
Hi Juanita,
I like to hear these examples of dedicated and motivated students. You are fortunate to have such students. Sounds like they are a joy to teach.

While instructing my classes I've noticed most students are very receptive to a positive and fun learning experiences. They wait outside the class during break waiting to get back to our topic's. This is really encouraging to me that I'm on the right track. It also helps to share all your daily experiences with them and laugh at yourself with them.
Hi Thomas,
I like the idea of authentic communication. I work mainly in the online environment. I, to, work hard to be authentic. I speak at the level of the learner and choose my words to sound enthusiatic and encouraging. Those emoticons are a helpful addition, too.
