Reinforcement can help the student realize they can succeed. It can motivate a foundering student to feel better and strive to reach their goals.
To first and foremost affirm the student as a learner and achiever and to confirm the student as a career-appropriate candidate.
I can also be used to further refine the student's perspectives on their career goals and educational decisions.
Obviously, to boost their academic performance and their ability to interact with other students.
Reinforcment as motovation can be used in both positive and negitive situations. Turning a negative situation into a learning experience (leaving the meat on the grill and walking a way may cause the meat to burn, always remember to "never leave your wing man" when it comes to equipment and product.) positive reinforcement is just that reinforcing the positive behavor. In both situations a student will remember the out come and how it will influence their behavors.
Reinforcement is an awesome motivator! Everyone needs to know that they are doing a good job and that they are on the right track. If you don’t receive reinforcement when doing the right thing, you may get off course. Instructors need to give reinforcement when the student does a good job. This can re-energize a student who has begun to feel bored with the class and instill motivation.
Reinforcement can boost a students morale and assure them that they can accomplish the goals they set for themselves. Reinforcement also engages students into believing that without positive reinforcement, it is difficult to stay motivated.
I agree with this. Each student has to feel that they are good enough to be taught some material and then to process it with confidence. Positive reinforcement can be the start the students need in order to function into a higher learning activites and situations. They may even feel so confident that they are willing to further their education in the future.
Reinforcement encourages people to do what they have done well and to improve on things they have not done well on.
Reinforcement can build the students confidence, thus, motivating them to strive for excellence!
Reinforcement can be used to motivate students because positive reinforcementincreases the likehood the the behavior will increase for example good grades are the immediate reinforcement to encourage students at the present motivating them to continue the behavior to increase the skills necessary to successful in the their future careers.
Samantha,
Good strategy. Students are used to having their negatives pointed out but to have their positives included as well shows them that progress is being made in their learning. This increases as you say the motivation level and helps to keep them engaged.

When a student feels they have done well and you reinforce their progress they feel more motivated to continue. I have incorporated a progress sheet that they keep all quarter and I always put something positive in it to help them see what the have achieved this far. I have seen this really help keep them motivated because they can see just how far they have come.
Reinforcements are needed so that students feel connected with the other students as well as the instructor. It reminds them that they are doing something for their future careers and they are doing a good job.
Reinforcement is a huge motivation tool. It let's the students know that they're on the right track or, if they need to do more to stay on track. Having effective classroom discussions can be a big motivator and reinforce students along the way.
All students do not learn at the same pace. with technical students, especially with hand on activities, one needs to reinforce learning. this will be a true sign for motivating our children.
Reinforcement lets a student know if he or she is on track. It helps the student know where their strengths and weaknesses lie. It lets the student know that you the instructor care enough to give them constructive criticism and praise.

Yes, it does and this is an important teaching technique. When the students are out working in their fields they will be pushed all of the time so the more skill they have in being able to expand their boundaries the greater their success is going to be.
Gary
Proper motivation for each student is needed because it empowers the student. I find when you motivate your students it allows them to push beyond their comfort zone and challenge themselves.
Frederick,
Students love stories as you know. So the more you can connect the dots between course content and real life experiences the more engaged students are going to be.
Gary
When I sometime teach introductory course I often use my life experience and students life experierences as reinforcement and motivation. I feel the it gives the students a clearer vision of a subject matter.
