Videocam
Hi class members,
I find it motivating for online students- and I- to
use a webcam so they can see my facial expressions.
I also like them to use audio, as well as I.
Sincerely, Pam
I think that a webcam through skype would bring more of a human factor into learning. I had a college class where the instructor could be accessible through skype. I think it is a great idea as long as the portal that is being used can support it and is ok with the administration.
I really like this idea. Have you ever tried going into a topic more in depth and video tape yourself giving a mini-bonus lecture and post it on the course website. This eases the time constraint on students as one poster was worried about that, and doesn't allow access onto yor desktop.
As a student a few years ago, I found it really great to be able to put a face to a name when taking any online courses.
Although I teach exclusively online, I refrain from using webcam for a few reasons. For example, it slows down the lecture process and some students seem to have problems with it, as well as allowing audio for all or access to my desktop which I do not feel appropriate for access.
Interesting... I too have been toying w the idea of enabling the webcam as well, but haven't done it just yet. I'm getting closer to it, though!
