motivation
I have noticed that if students do not see the instructor excited about the material being presented to them that they will not have a motivation for learning and will quickly become disinterested in the class.
students feed off thier instructors actions and inactions.
I've had experiences where I've had to present material that isn't necessarily the most interesting to me. During the presentations, I've sometimes caught myself letting my mind wander and can sense my own lack of enthusiasm. During these presentations, I also sense lack of student motivation, likely because they're feeding off my own lack of enthusiasm. Following presentations like this, I make sure to revise the presentations and add something that I am interested in, so I can feel motivated the next time I present the material.
This is so true! I find as a teacher it is hard to bring that motivation each and every day when sometimes it can become repetitive in nature on the material. However, I have learned that I need to focus my motivation differently for each class about how the material is/will be important for them in a few months during their clinicals. Also I find that I have to change my motivation style in each class since each classroom offers different dynamics.
Hi Wilbur,
Good way to keep the students on their toes and listening. I bet they really enjoy it when they find the fault and then can tell you why it has the fault. Good trouble shooting skills.

That is a good idea! I will have to try it.

I find that repetition of theory can become dull quickly. I have been known to intentionally repeat a theory, with a built in "fault". When the students catch it, they are very passionate about telling me why it is a "fault"...... makes for an exciting class!

Hi John,
This is so true. Excitement expands to encompass all those around it so instructors need to be excited about both their field as well as having the opportunity to work with students. This excitement will be reflected over and over again.
