Motivation
I like the way this module tied the instructor's motivation to the student's motiviation. I intend to add more enthusiasm to my presentations.
Hello Terry,
I agree with your statement. I too find that when I approach my lectures with excitement it does "rub off". Quite often students will ask how does a particular math concept apply to them or their profession, if it does not directly apply to them, then I'll tell them that the goal is to help you think critically. As a professional with a background in the automotive industry, one must learn to think critically to solve problems; employers want employees to think critically and to be able to make effective decision based on the data provided.
I do find my students notice a lack in my energy levels. I need to learn positive ways so this is not so easily seen. Chris Bloss
Hi Ruston,
Good reminder for us all. We need to remember that this is new to students, even if it isn't to us so we need to be excited about having the opportunity to teach and share our content.

One thing I have found with my students is that they react to my enthusiasm toward learning. Every time I learn something new I show excitement at the gain in knowledge. I try to look at a challenge as a chance to have fun, or to test myself. My students see my satisfaction at fixing the problem, finding the answer, a it rubs off on them. They start to see that what was "hard work" is really a chance for personal gain and personal satisfaction.
Regards,
Terry
I have seen this first hand. I recently had two students back to back terms for different courses. They seem to be more excited about the course I am more excited about (the one I teach less frequently). It has caused me to rethink my approach to delivering the courses that have become an "old hat".
It will keep you and your students interested by keeping the motivation up...its always good to utilize different resources if you feel like things are getting boring or you are starting to loose attention of some of the students..Its just like going to a job- you know once you start waking up in the morning dredding going to work, its time to find motivation to bring back the excitement and enthusiasm
Hi Kim,
Way to go in your efforts. By keeping the energy up you are increasing both motivation and knowledge retention. Happy teaching.
Gary
Yes, I believe that instructor motivation coincides with student motivation. Many times, students tend to react and respond based on how the instructor feels.
I have to agree with you on this one. I did not realize how much the instructor's motivation is tied into the student's motivation. As instructors we tend to think that student's should have their own motivation for the subject being taught, but it does not always happen that way. I intend to put a little more thought into my teaching with fun ways to engage my students in the subject matter.
