difficult students

it's hard to relate sometimes with my students. how can i get pass this easier?

I explained in another forum that I play "two truths and a lie" with my students as an icebreaker. We each stand up and tell two truths and a lie about ourselves, and everyone else needs to figure out which tidbit is, in fact, the lie. This allows students to "brag" about an accomplishment, share a hobby, or inject their sense of humor. It allows everyone in the class some insight into each person's life...even just a little bit :-)

Hi Tami,
Several things you can do. One, be available before class and greet each student as he or she comes in. A greeting, smile and a comment about something of general interest can help get the connection process started. Also, you can use ice breakers and games where the students interact with each other and yourself in a less formal way to build connection. Most importantly show your human side which help you to earn the respect of your students.
