Life Experience
I think having the students relate their life experience to their feild helps them to connect and appreciated what it's going to take to be successful and how what they have already gone though can help them.
Some of my most interesting classes have occurred when I share a true-life experience, and ask the students to share their own experiences with the subject at hand. Students love the chance to contribute to the discussion and the class participation can become very animated and fun! Any time that I can allow the students to contribute their experiences offers great opportunities for discussion!
learning from life expierences can be a useful tool when educating adults
I agree completely!! When students can relate a life experience to their field it not only reinforces the information that is being discussed it also gives them a "caffeine jolt", what I mean by this is that it gives them energy and a desire to continue on and get to the next step of their career.
When I allow my students to share life experiences after going over a concept reinforces their understanding of how that experience has educational and career relevance. It is an "ah ha" moment that cements theory with practice.
I agree whole heartedly with Ranee. For those students who are currently working in the career area for which they are seeking education. The students testament to the things being taught they are able to concur with the lectures and the instructor. Thus, it opens the minds of those who are looking to enter the career area and give them an idea of what it will take to achieve. It will also help them to realize their self potential and begin to plan their goal as to what specific area of expertise they would like to venture into int the real world!
I like your opinion this is a great experiences for me to learn that my students rely on their life experiences. to get their gols in life
I agree that sharing mistakes that you have made with your students allows them to see that they can make mistakes and still achieve success in the future.
Life experience is a great motivator. A lot of times students use it to change for the better and use the examples as what they wouldn't want to continue with empowering them to succeed.
Life experiences are very important when learning anything new. Information is easier to retain when you find relevance or importance to what is being taught.
I feel student enjoy hearing about life experiences because it will help them make better choices in life. As we all know all the choices each one of us have made were not always the best. I like to share what worked as well as what did not work. This gives the student a good balance to work with.
Hi Ranee,
I like to do this as well. I think this helps the students to see the connection of their lives to the course content when they talk about their life experiences.
