Motivating
Motivating my students is very importanat to me. However, how do you motivate a student that appears lazy and does not want to forfill their requirenents? We have a few students that believe it's the teachers responsibility to make class easirer for them, Generally, these are the students that fail to read or study as required.
We find that our senior term is the hardest to keep motivated and focused. The "senioritis" sets in and we tend to have to continuously pull them back in. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep a future grad group focused?
Lorraine,
Well said. The students need to realize that your standards and requirements are coming from the field. When they are working they cannot be late in completing their work and if they are they will soon be looking for work. They have to develop maturity in understanding what being prepared for a career is all about.

There are students that believe it is the instructors responsibility to make the easier for them. You are right they are the students who does not want to complete assignments. They make every excuse for why something isn't complete. I give a definite due date and explain what the consequence of not completion on time is. When given the alternative usually the student complies. It usually only takes one example.
motivating the students is essential in the retention and success of the students, but you need as instructor to know the goal of each student in order to plane the correct way of motivation .
