I really like the video from Harvard Business school wherein the instructor talks about 4 aspects of great instructors. In particular, he talks about 'knowing your students'. That's VERY important. You must teach STUDENTS, not MATERIAL. I also like the fact that he says "don't humiliate your students."
I also enjoyed the video. He provided a lot of useful tips. Yes, we must know our students. I have noticed students making a total turn around in my class after I have shown interest in their lives. Students need to be able to relate to you. I sometimes remind my students that I have sat in the same chair as a student and I understand the struggles of working, having a family, and going to college. I applaud them for making the effort to learn and improve their lives.
