motivation

every instructor/teacher has a different way of motivating their students mine is to show excitement for the course

Brian,
Helping them see what they are learning in this context is so important. This helps to validate the content you are offering in the course.

We've all started in the same situation and it is what we make of it. Excitement, passion, pride and of course money!! That is the motivation of our students..

Sometimes a student will finish a project that looks very good at spots. I will tell them, make the whole project look like that good area and it will make you money.

Rick,
This is a great way to set the standard for your students and the one on one approach gives them physical examples of what is acceptable for the field.

I try to tell my students that when I started it was just as hard for me as it is them. As a tool to keep them motivated get in the booth with them and weld together and we compare each others welds. This shows them that if I make a mistake or its not as good as I think it should be that we are all human and are not perfect. Through welding 1 on 1 with them and holding them to a higher level and telling them they are the ones taking our place in the field and we want to be proud of them and what they do.

I would also like to add that when you relate to the students about how you got where you are today through school, they realise their goal is achievable

Paulo,
Excitement and passion for your field are two big selling points that help to keep your students engaged throughout the course duration.
