Motivation Is Crucial
The best motivation and retention is positive reinforcement. Discussions about desire and how we can only make it possible with education. This will get students to think about their desire for their future.
I agree, motivation is crucial. There are some ways to motivate students, such as grades and prizes.
ROBERT,
This are great reminders to current students of where they can take their careers if they are willing to invest in themselves through hard work and effort. Your school is to be commended to helping the future be seen by current students through the pictures of graduates.

As an additional motivator, our school displays pictures of recent graduates on the walls year-round. I remind students to view a different photo of a graduate everyday and hold to the promise that their graduation picture will soon join the ranks of those successful graduates.
This sounds like a great idea. Do you think it would be effective for adult learners?
I certainly agree! I use oral praise as a motivator, also I award a student per day for the answer which required exceptional critical thinking skills with a treat for the day.
I also place the student's name one the board under the heading, best critical thinker of the day with a picture of a crown above it.
Robin,
I always keep in mind that adults are just taller children. They like prizes and rewards. You are playing to the child within them in an adult manner. Good strategy for reinforcing them each week, plus it sound like you have some really good prizes in the chest.

positive reinforcement works well in my classroom. i work at a cosmetology school and i have a reward chest. this reinforcer is used for at the end of each week the students who did their work on time and exceptionally get to take something out of the chest. seeing it is an adult crowed in a cosmetology school the chest has things like small travel sized products, or combs. the students look foreword to being able to take something from the chest and more and more do well every week.
Jo Ann,
Right you are. What have you found to be some of your most successful reinforcers? Thanks for sharing with us.
