Motivation is the fire starter
When we can share our excitment about what we do it spreads like fire through out the class. It gets people intrested, maybe not in exactly what we are talking about but intrested in how they can discover what it is in life that can bring out that kind of excitment in themselves.

There is nothing wrong with being a cheerleader for your field. Instructor enthusiasm is catching just as you mention. People like to be around other people that are excited so we need to bring passion and excitement to our classes.

I agree. I use a lot of discussion questions in class for this reason - it forces students to think about what they do or do not like and, hopefully, helps them find something interesting in the topic at hand.
