Stay Motivated
Stay motivated as an instructor, so the student will stay motivated as well. If an instructor finds him or herself losing the motivation, take a step back and think about how you can get the student involved in their education process. How can you help the students learn and apply that knowledge to their field of student to be able to get employed. The instructor should continue with their learning process to stay up to date with the lastest technology and teaching styles.
Lee,
It is fun to see the light bulb come on in the minds of students. Knowing you had a part in this learning break through is one of the rewards we get as instructors.

I get joy out of seeing a student grasp concepts and ideas. After so many years of experiencing this it is easy to take it for granted. I need to focus on accomplishments of the students and remember why I am here.
Staying motivated is so important to student success. Engaging in initiatives like REFOCUS, the instructor as well as the students can get that second wind that they need to finish strong.
Karen,
Thank you for these comments about why instructors need to be passionate about their field and enthusiastic about teaching. It is a fact that if the instructor doesn't care the students won't either.

Being a motivated instructor is so very important. If there ever comes a day that I'm not interested or enthused by teaching... that will be the time I take a break from teaching. It isn't fair to the students who pay a great deal of money to have a dull, lifeless person standing before them. Learning should be fun, interesting and inspiring.
The means of staying motivated as an instructor will vary with the type of material being presented. The knowledge base of higher level courses is constantly changing, and keeping up with new developments should be exciting for anyone in the field. Teaching the basics requires an instructor to focus more on changing and improving teaching methods rather than content, a very different approach. Instructors should look into themselves to see what they may be best at.
Ava,
So true and so important. If we are not motivated it is for sure our students won't be. We need to "sell" our content and engage our students. The results will be student that value our content and see the relevancy of what they are learning.
