retention

Sometimes a student chooses not be be retained since a course is not all they believed it would be. Especially the young

Robin,
Part of our job is to help students see their future so the more we can help them to verbalize their career goals and then assess how they are achieving them the more they will see why the investment in their future is important.

It is important to lsten to the student and understand their feelings. at the same time it is also important to let the student know that each and every clas is important, and it build up to career goals. Have the students engage in discussion their career goals, and tweek the goals with the student if necessary. This way the student will become more confident and continue the learning process.

Students enroll in a course hoping to get some return whether it is to simply fulfill a requirement, learn something that they are interested in, or just to see what this course is all about. By keeping the learning inter-active, enthusiastic, useful, and relative we can drastically increase our chances of retaining students who have taken the course for any reason.

Audrey,
Right you are. There was a misplacement that occurred and it is best to get the student relocated into a course or career field that better fits his or her personality and life goals.
