Motivation
The issue I have with motivation is that I teach science courses at a design school. Most students are here because they have no interest in science. I find that showing interesting or crazy videos or pictures helps increase interest and thus motivation. any similar experiences?
Larry,
Helping students to see the relevance of the content and making application of their newly acquired knowledge increases the value of the course to students. They start to see the ROI of their effort this way.

I too find that getting students motivated to learn the science behind the applications they are learning can be a challenge. I like using videos as well.
Jeremiah,
I teach a gen ed course that is required for their state certification. They don't want to be in the class and feel that the content I am covering has no value to them. Tough sell! So I like your work very hard to show them both relevance and applications of the content and how they can use the course content in their lives outside of school. This is what gets them on board with the course and having fun learning.

That is very interesting to teach science in a design school - I see the challenge there. I teach sciences at a vocational school for massage and science is important yet we still have students who aren't interested! I have found motivation a challenge for science in any scenerio. The enthusiasm and energy in the front of the classroom along with innovative ways to present the information helps as well. thanks for sharing!
