motivation
I think it the most important part of teaching
Earl,
I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to your student population. I use a lot of activities, group projects, case studies and story sharing to hold their attention. If I don't then as you know the students will settle into their seats and space out.

Motivation, is a challenge, My students are tired, just got off work or having other life challenging problems. Stories in which you can put them in the picture, encourages them.
Fernando,
Yes it does due to the influences that are in their lives. It is an ongoing process for instructors to keep the interest of their students for the duration of a course.

I can not agree more, however it is by far one of the most difficult parts of teaching. Students can lost motivation for a hundred different reasons that may or may not have anything to do with your teaching. Realizing, evaluating, and refocusing those students takes a lot of work and effort from both the teacher and the student.
Francisco,
You make a key point when you address the passion a student needs to have for the field they are preparing to enter. I like to see individuals that know they have made the right career choice and that they want to acquire all the knowledge and skills they can to be prepared and successful in that career. Students like this are what makes teaching so rewarding.

Motivation is key, as students learn part of the lesson and desire more knowledge to their bits & pieces; you have their interest, but if they hunger for more than they have their new profession at heart. A student has the ability to learn, we just have to guide them to it, as well as, show them their strengths & weaknesses to achieve those goals we have set for them; but, for the most part, they have set for themselves.
Ellya,
How do you encourage it with your students?
