Motivation

Motivating your students everyday is a challenge but very important. You need to share experiences from your career it will also help motivate students.

At times I have found that my students remember the story better than why I told it. They remind me of some of my stories

I agree with what you said Students need to know that they should pursue what they are interested in and even when they hit some hard times, they should never give up. It is important that they know that you are there for motivation.

Definitely Keith I also found that by using "life experiences" that are relevant to the course will make the information much easier for the student to retain

I am an instructor of cosmetology and feel the same way about my students and myself when I discuss with them a particularly difficult episode of my career, as well.
Thanks for sharing

I try to use the same technique as Anthony and give a real life experience at least once a week to learn from

I agree, they need to remain motivated in order to do well in class.

I am an instructor of nursing and feel the same way about my students and myself when I discuss with them a particularly difficult episode of my career, as well.

I have also taught in a career technical field and the students just eat up real life stories, and they can really get the students involved with the discussion. To help build critical thinking skills I will give the students a common problem I was seeing in the field that relates to the course material and ask the students how they would work through the diagnostics to fix the customers complaint.

ANTHONY,
Nothing like real life experiences to help sell your content. Your experiences in the field demonstrate to the students that you know what you are talking about and that you are there to help them achieve their career goals if they are willing to put forth the effort needed to do the work.

I am an instructor at an automotive trade school. When teaching a subject that I have personal experience on, and can tell the students of problems that I have had and how I handled those problems, you can feel the attention level of the students increase dramatically. What even make it better for me is when we go into the shop and the students go about looking for a concern exactly the way I told them I approached the problem and they fix it the first time. It makes me feel great and it also makes the students feel great.

KEITH,
Students really enjoy hearing stories from the field. The more you share them with your students the more value they associate with the content being taught. This sets up a win wins situation for everyone.
