understanding students
With treating every student fairly, I also feels there is a reward for that. I enjoyed the instructional process for personal attention to all students. Being fair and caring to each student can help with you own values in life. Not everyone is the same, but we all have a heart.
Hi Joseph,
Way to go in providing support to and for your students. By knowing that your door is open and that you will listen is very important to student retention. Knowing that you care about their success will go a long way in developing respect for you and what you are trying to do.

I let my student's know that my door is always open, and I try to adjust myself to their situation, and hope that I can help them individually, and as a group
Hi Richard,
That is one of the challenges of being an instructor, everyday has to be the same even when challenges say something else. We all have to be on our A game and this is hard since our students can have up and down days. If we strive to be consistent in our teaching and attitude we will be successful with our students.
Gary
I personally try to constantly remind myself taht they are people just like me and are capable of having bad days/weeks as I am.
I also try to find something really good or some potential in everyone of my students. That way I always have something to bring to mind on those days when you wonder whay the heck I even.........................
Hi James,
Each student needs to know that he/she is welcome in the class and that you will do everything you can to assist them in the learning process. They then have to commit to working as hard as they can to be successful. A good combination when each party is committed to reaching the desired career goals.

No matter what is going on in anyones life you can tell by their body language.Just being skilled in a subject doesnt make you a good instructor.Having the adility to communicate with every diverse student you encounter is key.
I'm an Instructor at an inter-city post secondary school many of the students are lower income and some victims of no child left behind.
Sometimes they are all judged the same, all in one box. We are all human beings but we are different individuals, and often that is forgotten, so I agree that the personal attention and the caring for the student brings on a better learning enviorment. Johnny may need more encouragement than Joey or may learn at a different rate but by understanding and acknowledging reduces behavior, esteem, and that under dog feeling.
I agree,
I have found that if I treat them in a way they feel is fair, the learning experience ie enhanced.
