You are right on target with the consistency statement. As you know an instructor that does not follow through or is inconsistent in policy will soon have class management problems.

I also think being comsistent, lets the student know of rewards and conseqences that will happen.

Being firm but fair has worked for me as well daily recognition
Staying positive is a good example to set for the students. knowing and understanding them aids in the motivation process for those who need that extra boost.
