I agree. You have to keep them interested and intrigued by what they are learning.

Kevin,
This is true because you are projecting a part of your passion for your field as well as your personality through your lectures.

Hi Donald,
Provided you have permission. Check with your school's policy on showing video. Many times there are restrictions that career schools to choose abide by.

Rochelle and Gary,
It is best when lectures come naturally. Everyone dislikes Powerpoint readers. The more I sepak naturally my message is always received better by audiences in my experience.

Ray,
This is critical information for students to have. They need to know the potential in their career area so they can decide to continue or enter another field.

I also beleive that providing truthful information that can make the student decide with factual evidence if they wish to stay or not is important. If a student discovers that an instructor was lying this can work to a disadvatnge to the organization.

David,
Students love to hear stories from the field. Stories reinforce the content being shared as well as increases the value of the course to them in relation to their career goals. So keep sharing those students and letting your students see how their career field operates.

I have found that when I wind class content into the stories from the field, class participation level goes up . When the class participates the learning enviorment is stronger.

Michael,
This is so important. By earning the respect of your students while extending respect to them you form the foundation for the development of rapport and this is where real student engagement begins.

Donald,
Yes, it is because it helps to set a light tone and it lets the students get settled into the class for the session. You can spin off of the video with a few comments and lead right into the topic of the day.

I'm not a natural storyteller or comic. Is a humorous but relevant video to start class acceptable?

The most essential aspects of retention is the ability of the instructor to effective connect and communicate with the students.

Tamika,
I use a lot of case studies for this purpose. The more applications the students can make during the course the better. You are doing such with your approach and thus increasing the ROI for your students.

I agree, real-life situations make concepts easier to grasp for adult learners. Students need to experience a real case scenario to understand and apply. Seeking a purpose is what keeps students excited about their career.

Retention seems to be a huge factor where classroom instruction precedes project work in our field. It then takes an extreme amount of individual instructor time to help the student complete assigned projects.

Amy,
They help shape the image students have of their career field and what to expect once they are working in it.

Dana,
This is such an important part of the instructional process. These appointments show you value them and their success and they get to know you a bit better as well.

Yes, I do agree with sharing career stories with students. In my personal field of Esthetics, students can explore many options.

I make it a point to set up appointments with all of the students during the office hours.I do this in attempt to get to know them better and address any concerns.

Connie,
Stories from the field help to reinforce the value of the content being shared. This is why the students become more engaged when you tell a story and give an example. This increases the relevancy of what the students are receiving from your instruction.
