Giving students rewards

I always try to point out the little things that students do well because most of the time they don't take them into consideration. Eventhough the student may be in college, they still enjoy getting stickers, or a smiley face on a test/quiz to know that they are doing well. Again something as small as that can really make the student feel better about themselves.

Hi Darla,
I like this approach as well. No matter the age people are people. They like little rewards and encouragement along the way for doing something good. Plus, it helps to develop rapport between the students and yourself.

As an instructor I reward my students byu attendance, and grades I think this is a great way to incourage them to come to class and make the grades they deserve. I have really lifted the energy in my class with my rewards and my students really enjoy coming to my class.

Hi Lisa,
Yes encouragement is a great motivator. With all that is going on in their lives it is easy to become discouraged and forget their goal of completing school to better their lives. Anything we can do to support them will help them to keep that vision alive.

That is a good idea. I will consoder trying this. It seams like it should be very effective.

I didn’t think about this concept of providing smiley faces. I like the approach. I like constantly encourage my students by letting them know that they did a good job. Sometimes individuals feel like giving up. I try to encourage them on the high points that they bring to the class. I encourage them not to focus on the negative, work hard, and they will do better the next time. This is a good motivator.

Rewarding students is acknoledging their hard work and learning effort. I encourage my students with stickers they can stick to their badges for every 100% they complete.

I like that idea, I think I'll start using it, too. I normally talk to every one but not always on a daily basis.
