Love what you do and they will too!
Enthusiasm is contagious. We all have things we love about our profession and remembering to share our positive experiences about our career with our students excites them about the profession and makes them feel they have made the right decision in being there.
Enthusiasm is contageous and is "safe" for the student to participate in; it also relieves tension in the student; it shows that the instructor is human, too!
I try to incorporate my experiences in the field into my classroom at times. It helps the students see that I am passionate about what I do everyday.
Hi James,
You sound like me. The "ah-ha" moments makes it all worth while. Great to hear about your excitement for those moments as well.
Gary
I agree! That's awesome, if they see you excited about your job and the work you do they will too. It will rub off on them. This is another added tool that encourages them to keep moving forward in their careers. We have to be able to love what you do always because we are the role models. We as instuctors set the stage for the next generation.
I think that students really pick up on the enthusiasm and love that an instructor has for a subject. But there is also another part to it and my mentor refers to them as "aha" moments. This is where the student has created an new thought process or conection and displaying their realization of it for the first time. I was once asked why I teach...it is for the "aha" moments.
Not only do the students enjoy, but they seem to be more interested and retain more by hearing the "real life" stories that the subject matter pertains. That is one of my biggest assets as a professional teaching in my field of study and career. This Course was very much "how I teach" so it helped to reinforce that I am doing some of this "textbook". Thanks, that was my positive feedback without even having to say anything. :)
i love what i teach and the students always react positively to my enthusiasm. I enjoy watching them light up when they learn something new
I really enjoy teaching. I find that with each class it can be so different because of the students and how you adapt your teaching styles to their learning styles.
I totally agree with you on this, I try to do this on a daily basis by giving examples of things I have encountered in the feild and benifits they will obtian through the years of working in the field. I always gets them to engage in the topic of conversation.
Hi Teasha,
You are right about students enjoying hearing stories of your career experiences. It seems that we all have plenty of stories that fit into the "didn't go so well" category. These stories make a point, the students remember them and they get a laugh out of them. A win win for everyone.
Gary
Hi Kris,
Always like to hear this from an instructor. The excitement does transfer to the students.
Gary
The students pick up on your level of passion and enthusiasm for the industry you are training them to be part of. This also is a huge component of being a good instructor. One of the best ways to help the studnet see me as a "human" just like them, is to share personal examples of what has worked and what hasn't as a therapist. The funnier the story, the better. I found that this job is extremely easy to get up and go to every morning and I feel that my excitement transfers to my students.
Hi Walter,
Great attitude. Don't ever waiver from that excitement and I'm sure your're not after 30 years. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I have also been blessed to be training students in a course that is also a passion of mine. I have been in the motorcycle industry for 30 plus years and I am now getting to share this with my students every day.
