Enjoyment

Enjoymen is the best advice in instructing enjoy your class appreciate the diversity each of the student posses

Hi Shannon,
Good strategies for getting your students involved and your content across. You are offering learning opportunities in a number of different learning preference areas so each student has a chance to feel confident in their ability to be successful.

As far as my students go, we try to do different activities/worksheets to keep the classes from becoming boring. In the Medical Terminology II class I instruct, we play "combining form bingo" and do a game with abbreviations on the board. My students have told me they enjoy having these extra learning activities. I also teach a Health Insurance class. We work with the computers one day of the week and complete activities related to the current chapter. The students learn how to fill out claims form and patient ledger cards. I have the students break into groups and complete activities in their workbooks also. Both my classes have told me they like the fact that I do more than just stand in front of the class and lecture.

I agree. Not only appreciate the diversity, but accentuate it and draw people in by including it in class discussions.

Hi Richard,
On those kinds of days it makes you really glad you are a teacher doesn't it? You see students learning and applying their knowledge in ways that will help them be successful once they enter the work world. A win win type of teaching day for everyone!

we have a blast in class...and I have gotten pizza before. I loved the video of the professor saying that a class is like riding a horse. THAT IS SO TRUE. And I always felt bad about not covering everything I had planned...but on those days the unscheduled conversation in class (with everyone participating) was of EXTRA value (about portfolios).

I beleive that you have to enjoy what career field you are in to make the class environment enjoyable. I have been in situations where the instructor always looked like she was in a bad mood and it just sent off a bad vibe in the class which is picked up by everyone.

I think this is very true. If you're enjoying what you're doing, the students will pick up on your enthusiasm. It makes the class much more fun because those motivated students become active participators.

Hi Humbert,
What are some ways you encourage your students to have fun in your class?
Thanks.
Gary

I instruct the students to have a good time in class
