Stess

What can i do to get my students more involved instead of complaining about the stesses of life?

maybe try more hands on activities. if yo get their minds off the things that are bothering them and focused on the material in the class, maybe they will have a more enjoyable time in class and look forward to coming in.

Hi Eloise,
Thank you for the comments about how you involve students in the discussion process. This helps them to see value in the course and to feel valued by the instructor. This creates a win win for both students and instructors. That way the man can fish for many years to come.

As I always say- "As you imagine it so will it be." I am lucky enough to have a portion of my class that discusses perception- we discuss what they perceive and how often it is not reflective of the truth. By presenting different perspectives on a issue the "stress" fades away. I then give the students tools for success to help them "de-stress" for themselves. What does Covey say? Teach a man to fish......:)

Hi Cheryl,
I start with a series of activities right from the minute class begins. I keep the class moving with a variety of assignments, discussions and small groups. I address those students that want to discuss such things and let them know I will not allow such discussions to continue. Other times I have set aside the first 5 minutes of class to talk about life stresses, etc.. I time the session and at the end of 5 minutes I move the class forward, no more talk about life stresses. I am firm on this and it works very well.
