The Human Factor

This module was very applicable to how I conduct my classes. I have been an instructor for 3 quarters now, and I have made a point to greet each student daily and take a few minutes at the beginning of class to hear what has been going on since our last class session in their lives. We have a very one-on-one relationship, and I have seen that this contributes to their feedback and willingness to participate in my class. Most of these students started with me during their first quarter and would not volunteer information unless I specifically called on them. Through personalization and encouragement, each student now participates frequently in class without my having to call on any one specific student. Terrific module!

Holly,
One of the things that I learned in this module was that I do not greet and speak to each of my students when they arrive to class. I now appreciate the importance of this simple gesture that can have quite an impact.
Thank you!

Like you, this module is much like I do my classes. I do try and greet each student when they come in to class. I enjoy building a rapport with my students as I can learn much from their world. Especially, in the computer world, the younger students always have ways around the computer and teach me. We learn from each other.

Holly,
Thank you for the kind words about the module and how it has helped with your professional development. You are expanding your expertise as an instructor each time you teach and the impact you are making on the lives of your students will keep you in the classroom for years to come. I wish you continued success in teaching.
