student discipline in education

Student discipline appears to be more difficult in our public schools today. A good discussion regarding the possible causes would be both very stimulating and profitable.

working with adult students, i find that one on one discussions seems most effective.

I agree with this. When students are disciplined they tend to understand the meaning behind the information because they've taken the time to stay on track.

Thank you for these comments. They are right on target and are good advice for instructors. Instructors need to look for what are the causes of such behaviors and how they can get them to change through support, success and involvement.

This topic caught my eye as I teach non-traditional adult learners and I have seen some of them act out in class as though they were still in jr. high or high school. It can be very frustrating to an instructor as it is actually quite disrespectful. One way that helps me to help my students who are acting out is to remind myself that the behavior is a symptomatology of something that is wrong. Often times it is insecurity, fear of failure, lack of confidence.
