Students names
How important it is to learn all the names of my students.
Hans,
Keep up your effort to learn student names and when you can't remember a name a friendly greeting along with a smile will help to set them at ease and encourage them even if you can't recall their name.

It is also difficult for me to remember student’s names; I work with different groups of people every day of the work week, but always recall their faces and always encouraging them without saying their names.
Allyson,
Right you are. The sooner the better and this helps greatly with the development of respect as well.

In order to make your students the most comfortable you need to learn their names as soon as possible! It is so important!
Brian,
Strive to create a connection or fact about each student, such as a hobby, pet, music, etc. that you can attach to their name. I have found that by connecting a fact with their name and then using their name frequently I can have their name memorized by the third class meeting.
I do know it is tough having a new group every three weeks so you have to really concentrate the first day when you do introductions and ice breakers.

I have trouble rembering names because every three weeks I get a new class of students.. What could I do to better remember them?
Our program is only seven months, and I mite only get the chance to teach them again in a diffrent phase which makes it difficult.
I think it's important too, because as the Harvard Business School said, he may call on certain students to provide more background information based on their experience. That contributes to the respect given to the instructor that he cares enough to really know his students, keeping them focused on the content, and encouraging them to participate. On the flip side, it's good to know the names if you have 'wall flowers' who don't like to contribute, but are content just sitting there and absorbing. It's a great way to bring them out, especially if you think they have something to contribute, but are just not confident enough. A fine line between confidence building and embarrassment.
Sarai,
I think it is very important because it shows the students that the instructor cares enough about them to learn their names and something about them.
