How can an instructor retenion a student who is being force to attend school due to outside reasons?

Keeping the student interested and involved is very important for retention, by helping the student keep their focus on the reason they are here.

Unfortunately in many cases you can't. I have students that are forced to be in school and they bring their attitudes with them. I do my best and try to keep them engaged but in the end it is up to them to decide to be successful. I am sad when they chose to fail but in the end they are accountable.
