A caring Instructor

It is important for an instructor to be both knowledgeable abd caring for the needs of the Adult learner. It is important to take the opportunity to know the student population in your class setting. This will allow the instructor to provide an atmospere conducive for the learning experience.

Dena,
One of the challenges of being an educator is the one you mention and that is wearing too many hats as the learning leader. I have been an educator for many years and I am still working on just how many roles I can fill. Each class session I try to limit the roles but before long I am spreading myself out into these different roles again. The end result though is that I know I have made a positive impact on the lives of my student and that is my legacy as a teacher.

I completely agree with your statement!! I am trained as an RN and the reason, I went into the profession is to help people feel better. In a sense, my students are now my "patients" that need me to "take care of them". I feel not only like a teacher and nurse, but a mother, a psychiatrist, counselor, and a disciplinarian. It's alot of hats to wear at once and sometimes, I take on too many of my students' issues. I'm working on it!

I agree. Both knowledge and a caring heart are vital for the adult learner. They have a different mindset along with a active way of thinking.

This is one area I feel that I do a good job in, maybe sometimes too caring!!!
