Student Success

We have had alot of students who were offered employment during their externship. I have a picture posted of those students who attended our PT program who are now successfully working in the field, along with a brief explanation of when they graduated and with whom they are now employed. My current students see this everyday and it reminds them of their ultimate goal, employment. Thats what its all about really is preparing them to be a future canidate for employment as a Pharmacy Technician.

Lisa,
I think this is a good way to motivate students. Sometimes when they get bogged down in going to school and dealing with life they begin to think they are the first ones to ever have gone through this. Seeing others shows them that they are not the first and that the students on the wall made it and so can they.

In order to promote student success, we made a big collage of pictures from the last graduation ceremony and posted it up on campus with the Valedictorian speeches around it. Students often stop by to read the words of encouragement and wisdom from past students. I think it helps the current students realize others have struggled before them. And, I also think it helps them visualize themselves walking across the stage and participating in the graduation ceremony.

Jeffrey,
I am a big fan of using motivators like this. I believe they do make an impact on both students and faculty.

A former employer of mine also had large posters with the same idea placed in the hallway! They made a great place for recruiters to stop and reflect on the many successes of the institution.

Mark,
Great way to provide ongoing reinforcement to your students. When they get tired and worn down mid-way through a course seeing the pictures of successful graduates help to perk them up and get them going again. An easy way to motivate and show the value of the content you are teaching.
