How to help Students with Language problems !!

Many of our students may come to us with English language deficiencies. There are many excellent resources and agencies that will provide us with materials and assistance in our effort to offer quality instruction to this learning group.

Khalid,
This is a good point. Sounds like you have some very dedicated students in your courses.

I teach Physics. I have seen some students open a dictionary to see the meaning of words asked in an exam. Since they had a good knowledge of the subject (from their home countries), they did very well. Others who had English deficiency, and were also not proficient in the subject could not do well. This is to say that a solid background in the subject helps overcome the English language deficiency.

Irum,
Thank you for making this point about resources available to instructor in colleges like yours. As instructors we do not have the time nor skill to help overcome English language deficiencies in the short time we have students but by referring them to the appropriate resources they can get the assistance needed while continuing with their studies.
