The Human Factor

The human factor is critical to Education as a whole, not just retention. Students to feel valued and sense of purpose. If we create an environment that treats them as individuals with respect and concern, retention will be a positive side effect.

When this module started to discuss the Human Factor it reminded me of a quote that one of my professors in college repeated frequently... "People don't care what you know until they know that you care". I try to remind myself of this often when interacting with my students.

Jeremiah,
Passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it are two elements that really help "sell" the course to students. Enthusiasm is catching so we need to share ours with as many of our students as is possible.

I agree. Young or old, students pick up on your enthusiasm and realize when they are cared for or now. I always make it a point to learn names and take interest in my students from the begining.

Joel,
Well said and so important to the total teaching effort. Without the human factor teaching becomes stale very quickly.
