Effective Student Retention
I really enjoying listening to all the different stories each of my students have experienced and then I try to relate what they told me to what we are learning for that day. I also try to relate information to everyday activities so they understand easier
James,
These can be a lot of fun and really generate some great discussions. As the learning leader you can manage them so they don't get too far off the rails and bring them back as needed.

Going along with your point discussed. I believe that leaving an open forum sometimes or taking a moment of tangent really can help give a class a much needed break of structure, and provide for a great learning environment.
Stanley,
Stories are great connectors to content. You or your students sharing a story or example that supports the content is a great way to make the information come alive for the students and show them relevancy in relation to what is being studied.
