Instructor Enthusiasm and dedication to students
When an instructor is enthusiastic, it shows. Students become interested in learning why an instructor likes what he or she teaches. Providing real life examples to what an instructor teaches, is part of that enthusiasm.
Bradley,
These are valuable experiences to share because they help to show the students the relevance and application of the content being taught. In addition, they find the stories and examples interesting from a human interest perspective.

When sharing lif experience it seems to motivate some students and also keeps them interested in the field they want to go into.
Anthony,
Yes, they do and we need to demonstrate them to our students in a way that encourages them to get excited about the learning opportunities they have while realizing that what is being offered is of value to them.

My thoughts exactly. Students learn when they feel personal connection with the topics discussed. Similarly, students feel a personal connectionw with topics when the instructor demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for those topics. These things go hand in hand.
Amber,
Right you are. It is a fact is the instructor is not passionate about his or her field the students for sure won't be. We need to bring enthusiasm to the classroom and lab. Excitement is catching.

If an instructor is not passionate about what they are teaching then they need to not be teaching that topic. All I can think of is the teacher on Ferris Bueller's day off. His voice was so flat and uninteresting it would be amazing to me that anyone could get anything out of something he said.
Helen,
So true. Having passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in getting students engaged in the course.

when you like what you do and know what you are doing it is easy to convey to people what they need to do and how it needs to be done
Alfonso,
Good comments about how the learning leader influences the atmosphere of the class. We need to bring passion for our field to the classroom along with enthusiasm for teaching about it. With these two elements in play you have a formula for success.

I completely agree as well. When an instructor is passionate about their job field, it shows in the classroom when they deliver the material to their students. The students are fully engaged and the mood/attitude within the classroom is positive and lively. When the instructor is not, the students are disengaged and the class attendance suffers greatly. Not to mention the overall grades of the students and that is where discouragement and motivation decreases as well!
Christie,
Instructors that have passion for their field and enthusiasm for teaching about it are well received by students. We need to bring both elements with us each time we step into a classroom or lab.

I have found that when I'm excited about a topic my students engage and share personal stories to the topic at hand. Everyone laughs and is happy.
Alice,
Yes they do. They make the content come alive and gives value to information being shared. Real life experiences increases the motivation level of students and helps them to see their future in their career choice.

Real life experience grips and engages my students more than most other things, when included during lecture time. It encourages questions and feedback. I think it helps keep students engaged, and breaks up the possible monotony of longer lecture times.
Abeer,
Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in getting students excited about what is being taught. Your comments are right on in terms of how to get students engaged in the course.
