Setting the Stage

I've noticed that by us instructors setting the stage and starting the process, it automatically offers the students a sense of security as well as comfort. If we show we are concerned about them and their well being (ex. calling them when they miss class) they will be more active with their education.

Hello LaTanya,
I completely agree with this concept. The structure of the class and the pace , respect, and rapport that is established by the educator sets the stage for the entire class. On the first day of class, if all of the requirements are clearly indicated, and any specifications are explained with detail, through the syllabus, the student is able to get a clear understanding of their expectation. I have also found that repeatedly revisiting the requirements for class, helps to re-establish the obligations for each party in the class, instructor and student.

yes, I agree showing our student we the professor is concerned about their learning environment and academic success. However I do not think we should be calling them when they miss a class. the student should be the one notifying the Professor.
