Big Deal of Small Success

The section of Model 2: General Strategies for Student Retention that spoke to me the most as an instructor was:

"Making a big deal of a small success will assist in making the big successes even more important to students who are unsure about continuing in school."

After going through this section, I now have a conviction of wanting to do better at "make a big deal" of the small successes of the students. These small praises along the way will help the student along being keeping them encouraged…letting them know they can make it.

Dave,
This is a good way to develop rapport with your students because students do need reinforcement. We instructors cannot forget this as we interact with our students and try to reinforce their learning efforts.

As a new instructor, if feel this is an area that I will try and focus on. I know that from a students prospective this can really make or brake a class for them. This also builds a lot of report with your students.

Thomas,
Reinforcing these small accomplishments really helps to keep students motivated and engaged. You will like the results you get when you use this reinforcement strategy.
