Memorizing
Its very difficult to expect students to retain information with difficult topics. How can you teach a student to memorize over 200 drugs? How can we help students memorize?
When It comes to remembering anything it has to relate to the student before they will remember.
Flash cards are great but sometimes making games that help them to think outside the box works well!
Preparing for tests can be challenging but fun as well. I encourage students to read the course textbook, take notes in class, ask questions and put themselves in a position to be successful by taking the time to study for quizzes/tests/final exams. I do encourage flash cards as a great way to remember key terms and concepts. I have also developed "spider-webs" as a study guide tool. In these webs, I ask students to connect key terms/concepts to their definitions. On the left hand side is the term/concept and the right is the definition. The student must match the correct term/concept to the definition by connecting them with an arrow/line. I found this to be very useful when learning many terms/concepts.
Flash cards and breaking things down to manageable parts will definatley help. Have them do 20 or 30 at a time then put them all together at the end.
