Hello Robert,
I agree. As a Department Chair it has taken me years to coach instructors in the value of a well written evaluation. When the instructor’s security is met then and only then will they allow the written word to sink in. It is my job to make the instructor understand that the student feedback (evaluation) is a tool and not a weapon.
A good teacher is also a good learner and can always improve on his techniques by listening to student feedback.
Ralph, well stated. Dr. Joe Pace from The Pacific Institute teaches that the teacher will appeat when the student is ready. This implies that we as educators need to follow exactly what you are saying and always be deligent in our continual focus to provide a direction and positive reinforcement so as students come to that level of awareness, they are receiving the positive focus they need.

Positive feedback is always nice. I believe many times the impact of our motivation may not show itself until days, weeks or even months later. It is the sustained positive influence over time that changes lives and creates the lifelong learner. It’s that old saying: give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Motivation creates that lifelong desire to learn.
