Extrinsic Motivators
I teach a class that is necessary to the field of study that my students are entering but that can be very boring at times. It is an all lecture class and the only participation is discussion or answering questions. Occassionaly I am able to break them into groups to work on certain things together. Any suggestions on how to engage them better?
Helen , what actions do you have your introverts perform if presenting in front of a group is not an option for them?

Breaking into groups is excellent. Try having each group teach what they have learned as the group and give certificates afterwards.
matt, awesome and glad the link was useful. Please share any links you like or have used in the past as I like to maintain a collection and spread the word for those interested.

James -
Thank you for the link! Granted, I followed it per this course, but there are some great articles and resources available there for all types of classes and learning elements.
I was familiar with NEA and NCHE, but just never was prompted to check out their website(s). It's now bookmarked. Thanks again!
Matt
Sara, I have to ask the obvious question, why is the class all lecture? This does not follow the latest findings of research with respect to teaching and learning. Here is a link that may provide some resources to get you thinking differently - http://www.nea.org/home/33508.htm. Hope you find this useful.
