I agree with the 6 indicators that a student is motivated

I have been an instructor for 12 years..motivated students are what makes me enjoy my job. I also am a supervisor at a hospital and the motivated students in my classroom have also proven to be the better employees.

The students who are completely opposite..requiring a ton of supervision, never volunteer, need prompting to start a task, no attention span, poor attendance are the students that I would never hire as a supervisor in my field.

Gerald, what are some of the circumstances your students provide as to why they do not want to me in class? Is your institution one that students think of college is a subsidy to their income due to financial aid or are there other reasons they enroll but do not want to participate? Thanks for anything you can share.

There are alot of students that, it doesn't matter how much you tell them time in class, is a one key to success..
Motivating a student that doesnt act like they want to be there in the first place is very hard for me to do.. I have tried many different trick i have learned here and from my peers.. If they dont want to be in class,, they are hard to motivate..

TONIA, sounds like you have your mind set on the good students from the bad. If Bill Gates were one of your students you might have missed him as someone what could have been a good employee. My point here is be careful to judge based on what you experience in one class especially with it is yours, you may miss some good potential employees that just need a different direction with respect to their motivation.
