How can a student be motivated that does not care about missing a quiz or getting a reward?
Lila, your real question is how to you get to the root cause of a student's motivation. How do you know they do not care? What conversations have you had with the student? Is the student saying they do not care about their future? Are they willing to live on welfare their entire life and not have a career of any kind? The more you can get to know the student and what their goals are for the short, medium and long term then you can use that knowledge to get them to better understand their future begins now and the quality of their future life will depend on the effort they put into their studies. I hope this helps.

Hi Lila,
Adult learners need to know that what they are learning is relevant to their education and they need to know how this fit into their life expereince.
Adult learners can be motivated by making the class interesting. Obviously this student is not interested in extrinsic motivation. Try to establish a rapport with this student and find out what can be done to increase intrinsic motivation.
According to the lesson " intrinsic motivation results when a student feels secure in the learning environment, likes the instructor's teaching methods, likes the content or structure of a lesson, successfully completes a task, has some control over the learning process, and feels good about achieving goals."
Get to know those students and find out what motivates them a little encouragement can go a long way. Encourage them to own their education.
