Motivating Student

I have one particular student is very personable and likable to lack any and all motivation. How can I reach out to this student without offending?

Joseph, very hard to provide advice with I know nothing about the student. What is the reason they are in school to begin with? Are they being forced to be there? Do they have a clear vision where they want to be in 5 and 10 years? Sometimes students just need a better understanding of the importance of mind mapping and to envision their future. If their path is clearly set then if may be harder to reach them if your particular topic or class is not directly related to their vision of their future. However, if their vision is not so clear then you can use this lack of clarity to engage them into deeper thought patterns and assist them in building their mental bridge to their future. Someone who makes a living in a completely different field than their undergraduate degree is a good example. The completion of the degree is an accomplishment in and of itself and allows an individual to take on multiple paths to success later. A lack of achieving a degree however closes many doors very early and yields less paths to a road to possible success. There are many doctors, nurses, lawyers, scientists, and other professionals that are very successful in field far outside their undergraduate degrees but the accomplishment of their undergraduate degrees provided a pathway to their current success.
