Motivation
Instructors need to be able to get their students pumped and excited about what they are getting ready to learn. This makes for a much better learning environment in that the students are paying attention, listening, taking good notes, and just all around happy and excited to be there.
Nelida, how do you identify when an otherwise motivated student is experiencing issues outside the classroom that distracts them from their coursework? Some students are really good at hiding the various rocks in their road to total success so thanks for sharing anything you feel worth mentioning.

As instructor you could observe when your students are motivated by just the way they interact, enjoy their tasks and how respond to the course content.
Richard, well stated. Studies at Harvard University have very specific consequences to the emotion of happiness. The brain is simply more susceptible to encoding data when the subject is in a state of "Happiness".

The best way I know to get students motivated is to be motivated about the subject yourself. As a teacher, your passion for the subject should be evident. Through the way you speak, the way you move yourself and the ability to answer questions and give information is crucial. The students can tell if you are enjoying the subject you are teaching. Through questions, delivering above and beyond information and through the excitement in your voice, students will pick up the passion you have and express this in their work.
