how to motivate students
finding ways ways to motivate students
Kareem, great technique and not used enough within our sector of higher education so great job. There are many ways to educate and transfer knowledge and the best ways use positive energy versus negative. Dr. Joe Pace from The Pacific Institute teaches us that it takes 11 positive statements to make up for a single negative one which shows how powerful and destructive negative energy can be to a student's self-esteem. By finding positive ways to assist students in their full understanding of a subject you help to continually build their confidence, trust and excitement about learning. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

I usually motivate students by using constructive criticism. I build them up and motivate them and then point out how they could have improved it by utilizing other techniques. As a new teacher I know I have various ways to learn how to motivate but this usually works for me.
Elizabeth, what a well thought out idea and thanks for sharing. I would be interested in hearing about any other techniques any of our readers care to share but this was a good one.

At the institution where I teach our new starts are required to attend class consecutively for 28 days, so in order to motivate them I offer a rewards card. For every day they come to class they recieve a punch. If they continue to come and get there 28 punches they can use that card as an exemption for any test they choose.
We use personal services as an award for our students, I work in a beauty school and so allowing them to get their hair done, or a pedicure or something they just don't have time for while in school is an awesome motivation!
Any suggestion on motivating them more in bringing in their own clientele ? They "work" in a salon once they hit the advanced dept, but teaching them to build their own clientele is one of my toughest spots to get them motivated.
Sean, what are some of the ways you have experienced success in motivating students? Thanks for anything you can share.
