extrinsic and Intrinsic

I appreciate all types of learners and feel that as an instructor it is our responsibility to ensure that the student is learning according to their style. I find it challenging and fun to figure which of the students learn from which style.

joel, well stated. Knowing different learning styles and getting to know each student and their life situation can provide any instructor with a wide array of resources to make critical mental connections with students. Thanks for sharing.

Elizabeth, great post and helps other to better understand that one size does not fit all. In highly selective institutions such as the Ivy League schools the classes are taught in such a way that only the strong survive. In the career college sector of higher education we focus more on assisting ALL students regardless of their skills and this requires us to focus more on the student and meeting them and their needs versus them meeting ours. Thanks for sharing.

As a 30 year veteran of the industry I am teaching in, I enjoying trying to figure out how to teach each student based on how each learns. Its like an orchestra/the real world of being a chef.

Rewards can be useful when you can make it a team dynamic. Instead of quizzes I sometime use the "game show " format. Works well for me!
